EuSEM - Paediatric EM General Information
Introduction
Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) ties the specialties of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. In Europe PEM has been regarded as a new medical profession. The establishment of a section on PEM will encourage physicians who are practicing Emergency Pediatrics to join EuSEM and to be involved in its clinical, educational and research activities. The EuSEM PEM section has been active since October of 2006.
Mission statement
To promote and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and quality of care in PEM in Europe through meetings, courses, research, publications, policy statements, and by establishment of clinical guidelines and other activities.
Goals
1. To advocate for children and emergency care.
2. To promote international collaboration between physicians who practice PEM and between the various European Pediatric Emergency societies.
3. To enhance the relationship between adult and pediatric EM.
Objectives
1. To encourage physicians who practice PEM to participate in all EuSEM activities.
2. To be fully responsible for the academic program of the pediatric sessions in the annual EuSEM meetings/congresses.
3. To initiate educational activities in PEM through courses, projects, and various clinical activities.
EuSEM PEM section members
1. Founders of the original PEM Task Force that subsequently evolved into the PEM Section are physicians involved in the care of paediatric emergency patients most of their time, and are in the capacity of medical director, research director or director of medical education in paediatric emergency medicine.
2. PEM section members are fully responsible for all activities of the PEM section.
3. Since its establishment, the member list has grown and the section's doors are open to welcome new professionals who show interest in the section activities provided that they are members of EuSEM.
PEM section election and activities guidelines
1. Section members will meet once a year at the EuSEM annual conference.
2. Additional activity of the section will be done through email communication and teleconferences, as needed, at the request of the chair person.
3. The chair person will be fully in charge for all activities of the section for a period of two years.
4. A new section member can be elected by a majority of section members present at the section meeting held at the annual EuSEM meeting.
5. The process of electing the chair person will be dictated by EuSEM regulations for EuSEM sections.
6. An annual report of the PEM section activities will be circulated by the chair person to EuSEM president and to all task force members.
7. If a specific activity of the PEM section needs to be financed, an application form will be sent by the section chair person to the EuSEM treasurer.
