INTRODUCTION
EUSEM Trauma 27 will bring together emergency medicine professionals, trauma specialists, prehospital care teams and key industry partners for a focused three-day conference dedicated to the future of trauma care. Taking place in Bilbao, Spain, from 10–12 March 2027, the programme will combine expert-led lectures with highly practical, hands-on workshops designed to translate knowledge into clinical practice.
The conference will focus on three major themes:
Day 1 – Tactical, Prehospital Care and Leadership
The opening day will explore trauma response in challenging and high-risk environments, with sessions on tactical coordination, leadership, civilian–military interfaces, hazardous dispatch, multitrauma management and the control of severe haemorrhage. Afternoon workshops will provide practical training in areas such as non-compressible haemorrhage, prehospital paediatric procedures, CBRN response, abdominal trauma ultrasound concepts and rescue or HART-style walk-through scenarios.
Day 2 – Trauma in the Emergency Department
Day two will focus on the in-hospital trauma pathway, from initial resuscitation to advanced decision-making in the emergency department. Topics will include hybrid warfare and emergency medicine, bleeding control, blood products in resuscitation, abdominal trauma, nerve blocks, traumatic brain injury biomarkers and thoracotomy. Workshops will offer practical exposure to ventilation strategies in trauma, wound haemostatic techniques, nerve blocks, thoracotomy decision-making and paediatric trauma care.
Day 3 – Mass Casualty Incidents and Major Incidents
The final day will address preparedness and response to mass casualty and major incidents, including war preparedness, NATO readiness, lessons from conflict settings, civilian–military learning and resilience in emergency systems. Practical workshops will include mass casualty table-top exercises, decontamination and PPE, triage simulations, paediatric considerations in major incidents and scenario-based decision-making for prehospital and emergency department teams.
Throughout the programme, participants will benefit from a strong practical focus, with workshops designed to offer hands-on experience alongside the latest clinical insights. The event offers industry partners a valuable opportunity to engage directly with emergency medicine leaders and frontline clinicians working across trauma, prehospital care, major incident response, haemorrhage control, ultrasound, biomarkers, splinting, resuscitation and tactical medicine.
EUSEM Trauma 2027 will provide a highly relevant platform for showcasing innovation, supporting clinical education and strengthening collaboration between healthcare professionals and industry in the evolving field of trauma and emergency care.
